AVANGAR Beat The Odds On Day Two Of EPICENTER 2018

Outsiders AVANGAR ruffled some feathers today with a shock victory over Ninjas in Pyjamas at EPICENTER.

The Kazakh team were expected by many to be one of the first sides eliminated from the tournament but caused a stir by winning the first map of the series against the Swedes. NiP responded in kind and the game went to a decider. AVANGAR started strongly and won the first eight rounds. NiP were unable to recover from this early deficit as AVANGAR caused a big upset.

In a post-game interview with HLTV, AVANGAR in-game leader Alexey ‘qikert’ Golubev said: “I think that we can still surprise everyone, I don’t think it was a big surprise, we knew we can win and we knew we can just show ourselves again.”

Team Liquid was also in action against fellow North American team Swole Patrol. There were no upsets in this game as favourites Team Liquid eased to a 2-0 victory thanks to an excellent performance by Keith ‘NAF’ Markovic.

In the last game of the day, Swole Patrol faced NiP in a much more competitive match. After losing the first map. the American side narrowly lost 16-14 on Nuke after having mounted a comeback from 14-10 down. The Swedish side has advanced to the quarter-finals while Swole Patrol has been sent packing

AVANGAR and Team Liquid will be in action again tomorrow, the winner will receive a bye into the semi-finals and the loser will face HellRaisers in the quarter-final.
